Student Success Stories: Noriko Nakazaki

November 10, 2017

I met Noriko on a very rainy day at White Deer Run when we where huddled

under the shelter for protection from the storm. I was curious as I saw Noriko was working on a drill and looked a little "lost". After introducing myself and just asking what in the world she was doing, we got into a long conversation about her career trying to play professionaly.

Noriko was a very accomplished junior player and played collegiately at the University of Notre Dame. After college, Noriko moved around trying to make it onto the LPGA Tour with very little success and at the moment I met her she was "searching". This is a state that many people get to where they are lost and searching for answers.

The problem is, like many others, Noriko was searching for the wrong things. Noriko had some bad guidance and bounced around to different swing coaches and had no idea what to do. That is a lonely feeling. After talking Noriko through the "why" behind her struggles it gave her new life and commitment. We worked hard for a summer and Norkio was starting to play at the level we knew she could. She made it all the way to the final stage of Q school in 2015 and played on the Symetra Tour. She cruised through stage one and two which was such a proud moment to see her get past her deamons. Hearing her emotion on the phone after was such a meaningful moment in my life.

Norkio played a few more years and now is back in Japan working as a rules official.

What I am Most Proud Of:
